Holy Frijoles!
Sorry for the lack of updates...I am crazy busy!
Have you
seen The
Brini Maxwell Show on the Style Network? It's brilliant, it's
so funny. I suppose those of you who live in NYC may have caught "her"
cable access show, I would have loved to have seen that. I think my boyfriend
is in love with her, which, I don't know...is a little strange. We each
have a list of our favorite celebrities and whatnot that we are allowed
to run away and get married to if the situation arises. His list is full
of people like Kate Winslet and Beyonce. I would not characterize Brini
as "bootylicious", but at least she has style.
It seems
like I keep seeing the same artists popping up on the sites I frequent:
If I had a child I would buy them this
book/cd from they They Might be Giants. Thanks to Melanie
for reminding me of it and mentioning the artist, Marcel
Dzama, who provided the artwork.
We have been
drinking Broker's
Gin lately. It's good gin, but my favorite thing about it is the little
plastic bowler hat that comes with the bottle. I have amassed quite a collection.
I keep thinking they will coming handy one of these days.
I got my
hair cut yesterday. I am currently searching for a salon that I reeaaaly
love and a hairstylist I reeaaaly feel a connection with. Which is something
I think a lot of people are looking for, actually. I have tried the only
two places in this town that I know are Aveda
salons. I don't think I am going to go back to either, definitely not the
one I went to yesterday.
Dear hairstylist,
Looking like
you would rather be any place else doing anything else than cutting my
hair and transforming me into the "super" me does not a big tip
make.
Sincerely,
Inverted
bob that is too "Dorthy-Hamel-perky" and not enough "I-am-an-artist-hip-and-interesting."
On the plus
side, the shampoo she used is the most wonderfully smelling smell I have
smelled in a long time. I forgot to ask what she used. I am thinking perhaps
Shampure,
because I have heard rumors of it's glorious scent. I am going to have
to go back and sniff some poo. Shampoo that is. And speaking of
sniffing, J and I have been sniffing my head in 30 minute intervals for
the past 24 hours because the scent of my head is THAT good.
I also got
a lovely lipglaze
called Wineberry. It's the perfect "My Lip But Better" color.
I love it the most, ironically, because it does NOT smell. I cannot stand
lipgloss that smells like Dr. Pepper, Banana Splits, or Vanilla. Having
scent that close to my nose is a no-no. Not that it's entirely fragrance
free, it has a hint of mint, which I can tolerate, which goes away pretty
quickly. And it doesn't have a flavor. I also hate flavors.
Megan
mentions that Fred
Flare is selling the Peach Berserk Silkscreen DVD, and I received my
copy (ordered from Peach
Berserk) this weekend and I highly, highly recommend it. I was
at a bakery this morning and out by the dumpster they had what looked to
be,....well....I don't know what they were, but they would have made perfect
silkscreen frames. Four boards nailed together to form a rectangle. My
internal dialog was such:
me:
Ooh! PERFECT, I wouldn't have to nail anything together. me again: Are they water resistant? (so they don't warp) me: Well, I don't know. me again: What if they warp?...and just where do you think you are
going to put them? It's not like you are prepared to start silkscreening
today...I think you should just sit here and eat your danish. me: Okay.
I found a
"30 things to do in my 30th year" list
from mipmup, which was inspired by Keri
Smith's list. I am currently compiling a list of my own. It's harder
than I thought it would be. So far most of mine are things like: "learn
to silkscreen, learn to throw pottery, learn leather craft..." It's
been challenging to figure out what sort of things I want to do in my life.
I don't really feel the need to climb a mountain or skydive or anything
like that. Should I be ashamed that getting Tivo is a major life goal?
Watched Secondhand
Lions last night, it was okay...a little schmaltzy. The BEST part of
the movie, in my opinion, was at the very end when they showed the main
character all grown up as a
successful cartoonist. I immediately recognized the work of Berkely
Breathed. I love that man.
I am still
sifting through the lasted issue of Bust, and checked out a site feature
in an article. Black
Phoenix Alchemy Lab. I particularly like what they did with the Alice
in Wonderland theme...I think that's really clever.
I have been
asked by some friends of ours to design some baby themed invites, thank
you cards and such and have subsequently been drawing babies like crazy
for the past few weeks.
I will post
the finished product once they are done. It's been a hoot.
P.S. Does anyone know off the top of their head why the title Harry Potter's
and the Philosopher's Stone is used everywhere in the world but the US?
I was watching the movie on the CBC Canada to see if the actors actually
said "philosopher" and not "sorcerer", and they did.
I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I joined the Harry bandwagon
a little late.
March is my birthday month and I am turning *sniff* 30 this year. I have
never been a big birthday person, but I decided that this year I want to
do something special in honor of my 30 years on this planet: I am going
to Vegas. I should say "We"are going, J and I. He has never experienced
the glory that is Las Vegas. He has been, but it was during the phase in
his life where he followed the Grateful Dead, and THAT doesn't count.
I have been
to Las Vegas several times, mainly accompanying my parents to one of my
dad's pool tournaments, and I have had a ball every time. We are going
to have dinner at Aureole
which has that massive wine tower with "wine angels" on mountaineering
harnesses zooming up and down fetching wine. Here is the tasting
menu....drool...since it's my birthday, I get to dictate the activities
list. On thing for certain is a trip on the Star
Trek Experience and a Warp
Core Breach. Nerdy drunken debauchery...I can't WAIT!
And now...for
a special announcement...
I am so excited about Knit
Wit: 30 Easy and Hip Projects. It's been great to see the evolution
of Knitty
and the collaboration of all the knitters is just a wonderful thing. I
am honored to say that I have been asked to join in the collaboration and
create the illustrations for the book. I am so frickin' excited I can hardly
contain myself.
I ran out
and picked up the latest issue of Bust,
after reading about Posie's
write up from Not
Martha. I am so impressed and inspired by those of you who put forth
so much effort into creating.
I was happy, happy, happy, to see a little blurb in Bust about Peach
Berserk offering and instructional "Peach Berserk's Silk Screen
Workshop and Start Your Own Creative Business Seminar" DVD (scroll
down on the home page under "Fresh & New"), that I snapped
one up...or at least I snapped up a pre-order.
I also got a Martha by Mail in the, uh.....mail the other day and there
are so many new fancy products out there that I have absolutely no idea
what I would do with, but want nonetheless:
