pics: Complete Pathway...(for the most part anyway)

1) The completed
path with the beginnings of a pebble border. You can see from the picture
that I have only enough pebbles for the first 1/8th of the path. Overall
I am really pleased, and it was so easy. We ended up buying 400 lbs
of flagstone (about 60$ worth at 16 cents a pound) to complete the entire
path, and we could actually use just one more big one at the end where
the gate is.
2) Close up "Woolly Thyme", the ground cover I chose to use.
It does well in pathway cracks and rock gardens. I think it will look
so much better once it's grown in a little, but as I am an impatient
sort of person, I think that I am going to buy some more....I want it
NOW!
3) This fabulous rock is not in my yard, although I wish it was. I saw
it on a walk we took this weekend and I had to take a picture
of it.

This
post on Ugly
Green Chair reminded me of one of my all time FAVORITE authors and
illustrators:Richard
Scarry. Man, I loved his books when I was little. I hadn't
thought about Richard Scarry for a very long time until yesterday and
it brought back so many fond memories. This
is my favorite book, perhaps because my grandparents had it and I would
always look forward to reading it when I visited. We also had one of
Richard
Scarry's Playskool Puzzletown sets, which I think my mom still has
stored away somewhere. I need to make a mental note to find it next
time I am home.

pics: My Yard
1) This is the lovely view to the back. I know the picture is not the
greatest, but you may be able to make out the pink rose bush climbing
the otherwise empty arbor. Feast your eyes on the beautiful garbage
receptacles...
2) This is the area of the yard you would see off to the left if you
were walking under the arbor around where the concrete ends and the
funky sandstone..uh..stones begin. As you can tell, I have utterly
ignored this area. The door next to the orange bucket leads to the garage.
I am thinking of planting at least part of a cool
season kitchen garden in this spot.
3) This stone walkway is going to be our first major project. The previous
tenant bought the stones and never did anything with them. As you can
tell from the picture, she did not buy enough. I have been placing the
stones on the path and have let them kill the grass underneath while
we figured out what we were going to do. We need more stones of course,
and some groundcover. Some sites recommend laying sand or gravel down
first, but I am not convinced we need it.

My Sunday
was a good one. Coffee and an early morning rainy/misty walk around
McClane Creek. Breakfast was a highly successful mish-mash of sausages,
onions, potatoes and eggs...which started life as a scramble, but headed
for disaster when we realized we only had two eggs. Two eggs does not
a scramble make. We decided to crack the eggs on of the sausages and
potatoes, put the lid on the pan and let them cook a bit. Oh..we also
added leftover goat cheese and let it get melty while the eggs cooked.
Superb. We ate and listened to This American Life. How much better can
a Sunday get?

Oh...Anthropologie...why
must you tempt me so? With your:
Black and white striped nobs and hooks.
and holy crap, I am in love with
this purse.
And this Kimono
top.
These items look like they can be crafted at home:
Fabric
Covered Letters
Leather
Rag Rug
Embroidered
Calendar- this reminds me of samplers my mom used to make when I
was little.

We had a pretty good 4th. The cherry pie I made turned out far beyond
my expectations. That Pate
Brisee recipe from Martha ROCKS. It makes the best pie crust.
I got the latest issue of Food
and Wine in the mail yesterday and there is a whole article about
pies and quite a few recipes like Vanilla
Ginger Peach Pie. Drool. I think this going to be the summer of
pies.
I am coveting this
red dog cachepot/planter from Sundance.
And usually, I am not really a fan of the country pigs and chickens
thing, but I love this tic
tac toe game for some reason.

One thing
I have noticed about living in the Pacific Northwest that I am sort
of having problems with is the fact that it starts getting light at
around 4:30 in the morning, and is still somewhat light at around 10:30
at night. It's very strange, but kind of nice.
We have a BBQ to attend this weekend for the 4th and I think that I
am going to make the cherry pie that is featured in this months Martha.
(recipe is not online yet apparently) I have had pie baking experience,
but never cherry.
P.S. I am thinking that I would like to add the snazzy comments boxes
that all of the cool people have, but am wondering if it's harder than
it seems....can someone point me to a tutorial or something? I can't
seem to find what I am looking for and I don't feel like I am up to
tackling MT just yet.
